Family Therapy

A family sitting together in a warm, sunlit living room.

When something is off at home, everyone feels it. The same argument keeps coming back. Dinner gets quiet. One person carries the worry for the whole house.

Family therapy is a place to work on it together. You don't need the right words to start. Tell us about why you're here, and we'll take it from there.

What family therapy is

Therapy for the family, not just one person.

In family therapy, the family is the client. Instead of working on one person alone, your therapist works with how your family talks, argues, supports each other, and gets stuck. Sessions can include any mix of family members, and that mix can change as the work goes on.

Built on your family's strengths.

We start with what your family already does well. Our approach is strengths-based, which means nobody sits in the room as the problem. The goal is a home where each person feels understood, including you.

A clear arc, not an open-ended commitment.

Family therapy here is focused work, not a standing appointment with no end in sight. Every family is different, and your therapist will talk openly with you about how the work is going and what makes sense next.

  • The same conflict keeps repeating, and talking about it at home makes it worse.
  • A child or teen is struggling, and the whole household feels the strain.
  • Your family is going through a big change, and everyone is handling it differently.
  • Parents and kids feel like they're speaking different languages, sometimes literally.
  • You're a parent or an adult in the family who wants things to be different but isn't sure where to start.

Family therapy is for every generation in the room, adults included. If one person in your family is carrying something more specific, we can help with that too: see how we work with anxiety and with grief and loss. And if one-on-one support is a better fit right now, our therapists also see children, teens, couples, and individual adults.

What to expect

Starting therapy for a whole family can feel like a big step. Here is exactly what happens, so there are no surprises:

  1. 1

    Reach out.

Fill out our short contact form or call us. Tell us about why you're here, in your own words. No clinical language needed. Do you have a preferred therapist? You can tell us that too.

  2. 2

    We coordinate for you.

A care coordinator, not a therapist, follows up to talk through therapist fit, language preferences, availability, and cost. You choose from there. Scheduling and cost questions stay with our care team, so your therapist's room stays for therapy.

  3. 3

    Meet your therapist.

A consultation is available before you commit, so you can see whether the fit feels right.

  4. 4

    Begin together.

Your first sessions are about your therapist getting to know your family and what you want to change. From there, you'll work at a pace that fits your family.

Our approach

Our therapists work with the whole family system: how each person's story, age, and role shape what happens at home. That includes how culture and generational differences show up between parents and kids. Families of every background are welcome here.

We take time to match your family with a therapist who fits, including language. Depending on the therapist, sessions are available in Korean, Mandarin, or Taiwanese.

Therapy here is not about deciding who's at fault. It's about helping your family understand each other and practice something different, together.

Who you'll work with

Nabi Family Therapy is a group practice of experienced therapists across four California offices. Our team includes licensed therapists and supervised associate therapists, and children, teens, and families are the heart of our work. We match you with the therapist who fits your family, rather than asking you to figure that out alone.

Meet our therapists

Logistics

In person at our offices in Manhattan Beach, Arcadia, Irvine, and Burbank, California.

Online sessions are available for clients who are physically in California or Oregon at the time of the session.

Your therapist will talk openly with you about what makes sense for your family.

Requests go through our care team, who coordinate scheduling with you. There is no instant online booking, on purpose: matching comes first.

Fees and insurance

We believe you should understand cost before you begin, not after. When you reach out, our care coordinator will walk you through the cost for the therapist you're matched with, before you commit to anything.

Sessions are $175–250. Sliding scale spots are limited but available.

We are currently in-network with Cigna PPO, Aetna PPO, Optum/United Health, and Anthem Blue Cross, in California. Availability varies by therapist, please contact us to verify.

Sliding-scale spots are available for students, single parents, caregivers, essential workers, seniors, and others facing hardship. FSA and HSA payments are accepted.

We provide superbills you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost.

Questions

FAQs

Does everyone in the family have to come to every session?+

No. Your therapist will work out with you who should be in the room and when, and that can change over time. Teens and older kids are involved in the way that fits their age, including the private space the law gives them.

What if I don't know how to explain what's going on?+

You don't need the right words to start. Tell us about why you're here, even if it's just "things feel hard at home," and we'll take it from there.

Can we do family therapy online?+

In-person sessions are available at our four California offices. We also offer secure online therapy for clients who are physically in California or Oregon.

How long does family therapy take?+

Every family is different, so there's no one answer. Your therapist will set expectations with you early and check in along the way about how it's going.

How much does it cost?+

Cost depends on the therapist you're matched with and whether insurance applies. Our care coordinator will go over the numbers with you before your first session, so there are no surprises.

Every family deserves a place where they belong, including yours.

When you're ready, reach out and tell us about why you're here. Our care team will take it from there.
