Nobody hands you a manual for the kid you actually have. Some seasons of parenting ask more of you than you know how to give, and loving your child hard doesn't always tell you what to do at seven on a school night.
Parent coaching is support for you, the parent. You meet with one of our experienced therapists, without your child in the room, and work on the part of the puzzle you can actually carry: how you understand what's going on, and how you respond. You don't need the right words to start. Tell us about why you're here, and we'll take it from there.
What parent coaching is
Sessions for you.
In parent coaching, the appointment is yours. You bring what's really happening at home: the standoffs, the slammed doors, the worry you carry after lights-out. Your therapist helps you make sense of it and plan what to try next.
Practical and present.
Coaching stays close to the ground: this week, this kid, this pattern. Less searching for someone to blame, more figuring out what Tuesday night could look like instead.
Built on what's already working.
You know your child better than anyone we could ever match you with. Coaching starts from that, not from a list of everything going wrong. Asking for backup doesn't mean you're failing. It means you're taking the job seriously.
- The same battle repeats — homework, screens, bedtime — and it gets louder every week.
- Your child's feelings are bigger than your tools, and nothing in your own childhood showed you what to do with them.
- Your teen has gone quiet, and every question gets one word back.
- You and your co-parent keep pulling in different directions, and your kid can tell.
- You're parenting between cultures or generations, holding your family's expectations in one hand and your child's world in the other.
- Your child has started therapy, and you want to know how to help from home.
If working on things together with your child in the room sounds closer to what you need, parent-child therapy may be the better fit. When the whole household is caught in the pattern, there's family therapy. And when your child needs a space of their own, we offer child therapy and teen therapy.
What to expect
If you've been putting this off because one more complicated thing might sink the ship, we've kept it simple.
- 1
Reach out.
Fill out our short contact form or call us. Tell us about why you're here, in your own words. "Bedtime is a nightly war" or "my teen won't talk to me" is plenty. Do you have a preferred therapist? You can tell us that too.
- 2
We coordinate for you.
A care coordinator, not a therapist, follows up to talk through fit, language preferences, availability, and cost, before you commit to anything.
- 3
Meet your therapist.
A consultation is available first, so you can see whether the fit feels right.
- 4
Begin.
Early sessions are about your therapist getting to know your family's story and what you want to change. The pace is set with you, not for you.
How we approach parent coaching
We start from respect: for your child, and for you. Parenting doesn't happen in a vacuum. It happens inside a culture, a generation, a family history, and a very specific kid. Your therapist pays attention to all of it: the expectations you were raised with, the ones you're raising your child inside, and the places where those two pull against each other.
Coaching here is collaborative, not corrective. Your therapist won't hand you a script or grade your parenting. You'll look at what's happening together, try things between sessions, and keep what works for your family.
We take time to match you with a therapist who fits, including language.
Who you'll work with
Nabi Family Therapy is a group practice of experienced therapists across four California offices. Our team includes licensed therapists and supervised associate therapists, and children, teens, and whole families are who we work with most. Parent coaching is part of how we support families.
Logistics
- Where: In person at our offices in Manhattan Beach, Arcadia, Irvine, and Burbank, California.
- Telehealth: Online sessions are available for clients who are physically in California or Oregon at the time of the session.
- How long and how often: Your therapist will talk openly with you about what makes sense for your family.
- Getting started: Requests go through our care team, who coordinate scheduling with you. There is no instant online booking, on purpose: matching comes first.
Fees and insurance
We believe you should understand cost before you begin, not after. When you reach out, our care coordinator will walk you through what parent coaching costs before you commit to anything.
- Session fees: Sessions are $175–250. Sliding scale spots are limited but available.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost. Learn about your right to a Good Faith Estimate.
Questions
Common questions
Is parent coaching the same as therapy?+
It's its own kind of support. In parent coaching, the sessions are yours, and the focus is your parenting: understanding what's going on with your child and deciding how you want to respond. Many parents do coaching without being in therapy themselves. If it turns out you're carrying something that deserves its own space, your therapist will say so, and individual therapy is here too.
Does my child come to the sessions?+
No. Parent coaching sessions are for you (and your co-parent, if you'd like). If working together with your child in the room is what your family needs, ask us about parent-child therapy instead. Our care team can help you figure out which fits.
My teen sees a therapist here. Will parent coaching tell me what happens in their sessions?+
No. Your teen's sessions stay their own. Teens need private space for therapy to work, and the law protects some of that space. Coaching is about your side of the relationship: what you can see, what you can do, and how to stay connected while they do their own work.
How much does it cost?+
Cost depends on the therapist you're matched with. Our care coordinator will go over the numbers, including any insurance questions, before your first session, so there are no surprises.
Wanting help with parenting doesn't make you less of a parent. It makes you the one who reached out.
When you're ready, tell us about why you're here, and our care team will take it from there. This is a place to belong — for your kids, and for you.
